Become a Host Family

Thank you for your interest in becoming a host family for Student GPS.  Inviting a person from another country into your home can be a rewarding and enriching experience for your family.  The length of a placement will depend on your availability and the student’s requirements.  Placements range from a couple of weeks to an entire quarter, with some students continuing on to a second and third quarter.

We have taken steps to make the application process as easy and convenient for you as possible.  You will see to the right a list of titles that will take you to specific information.  We encourage you to review all the material before starting the application process.   You will notice that there are numerous questions on the Host Family Application.  Please answer each as thoroughly and honestly as possible.  Your answers will help us identify the most suitable placement possible.

Once we have your completed application packet we will contact you to schedule a home visit.  During the home visit, the Student GPS representative will review your Host Family Application and go over the Host Family Agreement with you.   This will also be a time for Host Family members to ask specific questions.

While Student GPS will do its utmost to find the most appropriate individual for placement with the Host Family, we cannot guarantee that all requirements of the Host Family will be met.  Also, Student GPS cannot guarantee that the Host Family will be provided with a student each quarter.

Student GPS offers two host programs – our traditional Homestay Program and our Davis Host Family PLUS Program.  Each program is designed to meet particular needs of both students and host families.

Homestay Program

Our Homestay Program is designed for host families living in Davis, Woodland, and surrounding cities.  All host families must agree to the terms and conditions set forth in our Host Family Placement Agreement.

Davis Host Family PLUS Program

Our Davis Host Family PLUS Program differs from our traditional Homestay Program in the following ways:

  • Proximity/ease to University
  • Limited to two students at one time; each in private, furnished bedrooms.
  • Bathroom available for student use only.
